GED Preparation and Information

The General Educational Development (GED) Test covers five (5) areas:

            Social Studies

            Science

            Language Arts, Reading

            Mathematics

Language Arts, Writing (with a short essay)

GED Practice Tests are offered to predict success on the official GED Test. The practice test is offered at The GAP at GHS. There is a $15.00  fee for the pretest series.  An appointment is necessary. Call 497-4841 ext 356 to schedule an appointment.

If study is needed to complete your GED, you may ENROLL ANYTIME in the GED Preparation class. This class meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-8 pm, for 15 weeks. The cost for GED Preparation class is $50.00. An individual must be a registered GAP student to attend these classes. GED preparation books may be purchased at the GAP office.

GED Prep classes at The GAP at GHS are different from traditional school classes. Students test to determine academic strengths and weaknesses. Some students are great in math; some are weak in math. Some are strong readers; some are weaker. Instructors review the test results with the students individually, then an individual course of study is created.

The student maintains his/her own work folder in the classroom. As the student works through the studies, the instructor is on hand to guide, assist, or instruct a lesson as the student requests. The atmosphere in the classroom is very casual and supportive. If several students are stuck on fractions, there may be a small group lesson on fractions. Often students who have just mastered fractions will lend a hand to those who are battling fractions. If a student is strong in math, that student would simply skip the group lesson and continue working on his/her work folder.

After studying for the exam, the GED Pre-Test is offered to predict success on the Official GED Test. If the Pre-Test is successful in all five areas, the student is assisted in preparations for registering for the Official Exam.
