Athletic philosophy - The philosophy of Mountain View Middle School is to encourage participation by all interested boys and girls in the various programs offered by the school district and our community.

Our aim is two-fold, first, to provide as many teams and activities for interested students to participate in. The second aim is to provide a program that encourages students to improve their natural skills and to use these skills in competition with other students. Supervised school leagues add greatly to the interest and desire of our student athletes to improve upon their natural abilities. Properly supervised competition aids our youngsters in solving problems of real life situations.

 * Involvement in co-curricular activities at Mountain View Middle School is a privilege, not a right, and we expect our student- athletes to represent the ideals of MVMS. Failure to comply with the following rules and ones assigned by the coach can result in loss of this privilege.

Academic Standing - All students must have passing grades (above 65) in all subjects by the first day that the try-out period beings. Students will evidence passing grades by having their teachers complete and sign the MVMS grade form. If, at progress report or report card issuance, the student athlete is not passing any classes, they will be suspended from participation in practices and games until the teacher advises the coach that the student's grades have returned to an acceptable level. It is important that 8th grade students understand the eligibility rules in order to participate in sports at Mountain View Middle School.

Sportsmanship - It is also important that coaches and athletes practice good sportsmanship. Athletes who fail to abide by the rules of good sportsmanship will be suspended from the team.

Athletic Uniforms - Uniforms will be issued at the beginning of each athletic season and returned at the completion of the season. MVMS uniforms will not be worn during the school day (unless it is game day) or by any other team than those representing Mountain View Middle School. Failure to return a uniform will cause the athlete to be billed for the uniform at a replacement price.

Tryout Information - All athletes must comply with the following to be eligible to try out and participate in interscholastic sports at MVMS. Each prospective player must complete the following paperwork before tryouts: parent permission form, MVMS grade form, and a physical on file with school nurse. All completed forms and proof on insurance coverage are to be turned into the office. The tryout period is a minimum of three days, with no cuts taking place prior to the third day. All prospective athletes are required to participate in the established tryout period.

Grade Level Requirement - Students must be in grades 6 - 8 for all interscholastic sports and grades 5 - 8 for non-cut sports. Student athletes must be enrolled at MVMS to participate in athletics unless a waiver is granted to either a home schooled student or a non-public school resident. All school rules apply at home and away games, while representing our school.
