We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.
Student and Parent Information: Please see my Latin Page for more help with the class. You will find information about ways to study, links to cultural sites/further information, and class songs.Theclass expectations sheet lists how grades are broken down, what is and is not acceptable behavior, and is the same for all three levels.
About me: 2011-12 is my eighth year at GHS. I've been teaching English, Latin, and Spanish in area schools for close to 25 years and love coming to school every day.I'm especially excited about the growth of our Latin program here since I believe the study of the classics improves students' minds and appreciation of history, culture, language, and other peoples. Students can now take a full four years of Latin if they wish. My hobbies include reading, gardening (perennials), and kitties. I'm slightly addicted to email and I encourage both students and parents to write whenever you have a question or concern. About the program: We use the Ecce, Romani books (2005 version) for the first two years along with supplemental materials through about chapter 37. The third and fourth year are combined because students study original Latin authors together. In even years (such as 2012-2031) students study various prose writers and Ovid, and in odd years (2011-2012) they work on Virgil's Aeneid. All grammar is taught and reviewed in context at the III/IV level.
From our tech team: Sometimes student (and parent) email can look like spam to the filter (bad spelling, run on sentences, extremely short sentences, attachments without messages, etc.) To rectify this we have set up two filter bypass rules that you can use. Any message with the following phrases in the subject area of the email will be ignored by the filter: "homework assignment" or "parent of" (as in "John Smith's homework assignment" or "Message from the parent of John Smith").
