SAU 19 Section 504
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of a disability or a perceived disability and ensures that students with documented disabilities have equal access to educational opportunities.
If your student has a documented disability, they may qualify for accommodations through a 504 plan. Eligibility for a 504 plan is determined through the referral process in which a team is convened. A typical 504 Team may be comprised of the student (as developmentally appropriate), parents, and those professionals who know the student, understand the evaluation data, or are familiar with reasonable and appropriate accommodations. The team will conduct a records review to determine if there is a record of a disability.
For 504 eligibility purposes, a disability is defined “a physical or mental impairment that limits one or more major life activity.” A student may be eligible for a 504 plan if they have a disability as defined by Section 504, and if, because of this disability they require accommodations in order to participate in or benefit from their education as adequately as their non-disabled peers.
SAU 19 is committed to providing a Free and Appropriate Education (FAPE) to all students. Families with students with disabilities can start the referral process by contacting the School Counseling Department at their child’s respective school. For a full disclosure of parent and student rights, refer to the Notice of Parent/Student Safeguards.
The Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, as amended by ‘Every Student Succeeds Act’ (ESSA), requires every State and District to publish a “report card” that provides the public with important information on State, district, and school performance and progress. New Hampshire’s iReport meets this requirement by displaying various data points including student demographics, summative assessment results, ESSA ratings and educator information.
More information on state and local report cards is available in the Parent Guide to State and Local Report Cards from the US Department of Education.
To view the report card for and school in SAU19, visit the NH Department of Education's School and District Report Card homepage, select "Goffstown or New Boston" or one of our schools from the "Select a School or District" dropdown menu and a year from the "Select Year" dropdown menu and then click on "View Report."
Please see the attached documents below for previous years financial reports.
The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) enforces, among other statutes, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. Title IX protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance. Title IX states: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”
Please see SAU 19 policy ACAC for information regarding the Title IX sexual harassment policy and grievance procedures.
